Administrative Assistants are responsible for a variety of administrative duties that allow an organization to run efficiently. AA’s wear many hats at their place of employment and are often responsible for coordinating meetings, organizing paper and electronic files, answering phones, assisting customers or members of the public, and handling aspects of a company’s budget.

Students at Sheridan College and Gillette College who pursue a Certificate or an Associate of Applied Science degree in the Administrative Assistant program are those who are interested in working with the public as well as members of an organization.

At Sheridan College and Gillette College, students build computer-based skills in such programs as Access, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel, which they will need an in-depth knowledge of if they take the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification test.

MOS certified individuals demonstrate proficient and expert skills in Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook and FrontPage. Many companies support departments require A+ and MOS Certification for employment.
