The Horticulture Associate of Science program engages students in the study of plant science and the relationships between plants, soils, insects, animals and man. Students learn the science and cultural practices necessary for the successful cultivation of plants for landscaping and production. Students develop the skills necessary to pursue a career or transfer degree in horticulture, agroecology or related disciplines.

Horticulture AS Program Outcomes

1. Design solutions to real-world horticultural issues using the scientific method
2. Describe plant-soil interactions and their effects on plant health and productivity
3. Manage environmental factors to promote healthy plant growth and propagation in outdoor and controlled environment situations
4. Identify and describe both woody and herbaceous plant material using correct terminology (taxonomy, anatomy, morphology, and physiology
5. Demonstrate and practice safety, environmental protection, workplace ethics, and leadership skills in the horticultural workplace
