Horticulture AS

The Horticulture AS degree engages students in the study of plant science. The relationships between plants, soils, insects, animals and humans are fundamental to the program. Students will learn techniques necessary for successful plant cultivation, production and research. This degree will prepare students to pursue a transfer degree in horticulture, agroecology or similar disciplines or a career in horticulture.

Horticulture AS Program Outcomes

  1. Design solutions to real-world horticultural issues using the scientific method
  2. Describe plant-soil interactions and their effects on plant health and productivity
  3. Manage environmental factors to promote healthy plant growth and propagation in outdoor and controlled environment situations
  4. Identify and describe both woody and herbaceous plant material using correct terminology (taxonomy, anatomy, morphology, and physiology)
  5. Demonstrate and practice safety, environmental protection, workplace ethics, and leadership skills in the horticultural workplace

A “C” or better in all required program courses & the following general education courses-math, science, basic and advanced writing.
