You don’t need to go to medical school to become a medical transcriptionist, but with the knowledge of medical terms you’ll possess as a working medical transcriptionist, you’ll feel like you have.

Medical transcriptionists play a major role in the medical field by working directly with health care providers. They work in hospitals, clinics, physician practices, and transcription services, as well as from their homes as independent contractors.

The profession requires an intimate understanding of medical terms and excellent English language skills.

The Medical Transcription program curriculum at Sheridan College and Gillette College is designed specifically for the person who wishes to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to transcribe digital medical dictation using the latest transcription equipment and/or adaptations.

This internet-based program provides students the skills necessary for entry-level positions in the medical transcription profession. This program is designed to be completed in one year and requires 650 clock hours. Students may choose to complete course work on campus in the state-of-the-art Flexible Learning Lab or off campus. No classroom attendance is required.
