Athletic Coaching CERT

This certificate of completion is designed to meet the requirements for students applying for a coaching permit issued by the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board.  The Scientific Foundations of Athletic Coaching course uses ASEP’s curriculum and principles to introduce students to the fundamentals and philosophy of athletic coaching.  Throughout this program of study, students will be exposed to many topics including sport psychology, injury prevention and care, theory of sport, diversity in coaching, technical and tactical skills, risk management, and ethics in coaching.

Athletic Coaching Certification Program Outcomes

• Demonstrate injury prevention techniques.
• Apply first aid for initial treatment of injuries in sports (shock, fractures, poisoning, hypothermia, seizures, strokes, heart attacks).
• Apply Universal Precautions in a safe and effective manner when handling bodily fluids.
• Create a personal coaching philosophy.
• Explain sport specific rules as they relate to the basic fundamentals of the selected sport.
• Employ basic sport management skills.
• Design a basic nutrition plan for athletes in the selected sport.

Notes:


First Aid/CPR Certification through American Heath Association or American Red Cross is acceptable.
