Sustainable Food Systems AS

The Sustainable Food Systems program prepares students to become community leaders and entrepreneurs in sustainable agriculture and/or to transfer into a baccalaureate program at a college or university. Students graduating from this interdisciplinary program will be prepared to make responsible decisions in the production of food for their families, the environment, and the community, and will become responsible, discerning consumers as they are aware of the quality and safety issues surrounding the global food industry.

Sustainable Food Systems AS Program Outcomes

1.  Identify the individual components of local, national, and global food systems as well as interactions between the components

2.  Define the environmental and social criteria that may be used to determine sustainability in agriculture

3.  Describe the principles and strategies that may be used in the design and management of sustainable farming systems

4.  Explain the major social and economic obstacles to the adoption of sustainable farming practices

5.  Demonstrate the leadership skills necessary to meet the challenges of ensuring a sustainable food system for the future
