ART 2210 - Painting I


This introduction to painting with oil provides students with a basic knowledge of the materials and skills useful for self-expression through painting.  Color theory and mixing are stressed.

Minimum Student Competencies
Upon completion of ART 2210, the student will:
1 Identify and employ the correct materials, various uses, care, and application of the materials in the oil painting class.
2 Describe how the materials are made and the components within the materials.
3 Understand and recognize the methods and techniques of historical painting and modern painting processes.
4 Comprehend scientific color theory.
5 Understand the color wheel and related terminology.
6 Know the devices to illusion to create space
7 Analyze a painting for critiquing
8 Talk about artwork in a critique manner
   
LAB  
1 Prepare the materials for the painting process.
2 Design the picture plane on the support.
3 Draw the design.
4 Mix the oil paint with the painting knife.
5 Apply scientific color theory to the process of painting.
6 Create space and illusion by the traditional methods.
7 Work with various problems of mixing paint from saturated color, pastel, to neutral color mixtures.
8 Skillfully work paint with a brush.
9 Blend colors to model the form.
10 Use different techniques for different effects.
