BIOL 2022 - Animal Biology This course addresses the evolution, taxonomy, anatomy, physiology, behavior, and ecology of animals. The course emphasizes concepts underlying living systems, especially as they relate to animals, and the use of the scientific method for problem solving.

Prerequisites: BIOL 1010 General Biology I
Minimum Student Competencies Upon completion of BIOL 2022 Animal Biology , the student will:
- Apply the theory of evolution to explain the unity and diversity of life.
- Discuss mechanisms of natural selection.
- Explain animal classification, phylogeny, and diversity.
- Describe the underlying principles of ecology, including the roles of animals as components of communities and ecosystems.
- Identify elements of animal behavior and explain evolutionary mechanisms influencing behavioral development.
- Describe basic anatomy and physiology of animal digestive systems.
- Describe basic anatomy and physiology of animal cardiovascular systems.
- Describe basic anatomy and physiology of animal respiratory and gas exchange systems.
- Describe basic anatomy and physiology of animal reproductive systems.
- Identify mechanisms of material transport and exchange within the animal body.
- Identify different animal body plans and embryological development.
- Write effective lab reports on the findings of scientific investigations.
- Apply critical thinking and problem solving skills.
