COMM 2100 - Reporting and News Writing This course focuses on the development of news sources and the selection and organization of information. This course also includes: types of news, development and trends of journalistic forms, and intensive practice in news-gathering, including primary and secondary research, and writing news.

Prerequisites: ENGL 1010 - English I with a grade of “C” or better
Minimum Student Competencies Upon completion of COMM 2100 Reporting and News Writing, the student will:
- define major concepts in the journalism discipline.
- write effectely at an advanced level according to journalistic style that includes primary (interviews, surveys) and secondary (databases, news archives, etc.) research.
- investigate the various types of newspaper articles.
- apply writing skills to the expectations a specific article demands.
- select pertinent sources for testimony.
- incorporate pertinent sources in a coherent news story.
- apply hournalistic standards and ethics.
