DHYG 2350 - Clinical Dental Hygiene I This course allows dental hygiene students to apply practical skills in patient care and education during supervised clinical experience.
Credits: 3
Prerequisites: Admission to the Dental Hygiene program required.
Minimum Student Competencies Upon completion of DHYG 2350 Clinical Dental Hygiene I, the student will:
- apply standard infection control precautions.
- handle client information according to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- communicate effectively with diverse populations.
- employ efficient time in motion strategies to improve time management skills.
- exercise effective ergonomics.
- demonstrate proficiency in medical and dental history interviewing and documentation.
- chart extraoral, intraoral, calculus, and periodontal findings.
- critique required diagnostic radiographs.
- design an individualized dental hygiene care plan
- plan in collaboration with the client, appropriate oral health goals.
- provide primary and secondary preventive dental hygiene therapies for diverse populations.
- demonstrate effective instrument sharpening techniques.
- evaluate dental hygiene care based on client needs.
- reflect on learning through clinic journals.
