MUSC 1030 - Written Theory I This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of music theory. Topics include rhythm, meter, pitch, scales, keys, modes, intervals, triads, seventh chords, note-to-note counterpoint, and elementary two-voice part-writing.
Credits: 3
Co-requisites: MUSC 1035 Aural Theory I and MUSC 1290 Keyboard Theory I
Minimum Student Competencies Upon completion of MUSC 1030 Written Theory I, the student will:
- Notate fundamental aspects of pitch and rhythm.
- Notate intervals, pitch collections, and scales.
- Notate key signatures.
- Explain harmonic function in tonal music.
- Notate diatonic triads and seventh chords.
- Notate cadence types.
- Notate embellishing tones.
- Construct simple contrapuntal melodic lines in a two-voice context
