MUSC 2030 - Written Theory III This course is a continuation of the concepts and skills learned in MUSC 1040 Written Theory II. Topics include modulation to closely-related keys, standardized formal structures of the common practice period, modal mixture, Neapolitan and augmented sixth chords, vocal music, and chromatic harmony.

Prerequisites: MUSC 1040 - Written Theory II
Co-requisites: MUSC 2035 Aural Theory III and MUSC 2290 Keyboard Theory III
Minimum Student Competencies Upon completion of MUSC 2030 Written Theory III, the student will:
- Analyze harmonic modulations to closely-related keys.
- categorize standardized 17th- and 18th-century formal structures (binary, ternary, and variation forms)
- Analyze 18th century-style contrapuntal genres.
- Categorize and apply chromatic chords of the 18th and 19th centuries (modal mixture chords, Neapolitan sixth chord and augmented sixth chords).
- Explain the nature and use of typical formal structures found in vocal music, including those of popular styles.
- Analyze and compose chromatic harmony in 4-part texture.
