MUSC 2040 - Music Theory IV This course is a continuation of MUSC 2030 Written Theory III, focusing on various topics including the application and analysis of post-tonal techniques. Theoretical systems studied include set theory, serialism, and major movements since 1945.

Prerequisites: MUSC 2030 Written Theory III
Co-requisites: MUSC 2045 Aural Theory IV and MUSC 2295 Keyboard Theory IV
Minimum Student Competencies Upon completion of MUSC 2040 Written Theory IV, the student will:
- Analyze variations and rondo forms.
- Analyze sonata and related forms.
- Analyze various compositional techniques of the early 20th century, including the use of modes, scales, sets, and serial methods.
- Analyze the compositional techniques of a variety of post-World War II musical movements.
- Compose short pieces utilizing any of the compositional techniques studied during the semester.
