MUSC 2045 - Aural Theory IV


This course offers students an opportunity to learn further techniques and methods related to the skills learned in MUSC 2035 Aural Theory III.

Prerequisites:
MUSC 2035 Aural Theory III

Co-requisites:
MUSC 2040 Written Theory IV and MUSC 2295 Keyboard Theory IV

Minimum Student Competencies
Upon completion of MUSC 2045 Aural Theory IV, the student will:

  1. Sight-sing melodies featuring tonicizations and modulations.
  2. Sight-sing melodies that utilize mode mixture and the N6 and A6 chords.
  3. Sight-sing constructed from ordered collections and twelve-tone rows.
  4. Perform rhythmic patterns and pieces that utilize changing and asymmetric meters.
  5. Perform rhythmic patterns and pieces that feature super-subdivided beats in slow tempos and combined beat divisions (3:4)
  6. Transcribe elements of music including modulating phrases, modal mixture, chromatic “color” chords, and atonal elements.
  7. Develop listening skills pertaining to the recognition of common musical forms including variation, rondo, and sonata form.
