MCHT 2200 - Additive Manufacturing

This course will introduce the learner to additive manufacturing (AM) and its applications across manufacturing. With the use of this technology, we will transform the way products are designed and delivered.  This course is designed to prepare professionals for implementing 3D printing processes in their own organizations, bridging the gap between the opportunities enabled by AM and the skills necessary to implement it across multiple industries.

Credits: 3

Instructional Method Lecture and Lab

Prerequisites:
MCHT 2520 Solidworks and MCHT 2820 Manufacturing Methods or instructor approval

Minimum Student Competencies
Upon completion of Additive Manufacturing (MCHT????), the student will:

  1. Identifying the fundamentals of each major AM process, and its associated materials and performance metrics.
  2. Applying unique value propositions of AM, spanning from prototyping to production and service operations.
  3. Design the support structure and layout for AM parts.
  4. Design AM parts for production by combining engineering intuition with AM-specific knowledge and AM process, using advanced, cloud-enabled software tools.
  5. Prepare parts to be 3D printed.
  6. Evaluate the cost and performance value of producing parts via AM.
  7. Gain a future-forward perspective on how AM, and the broader digitization of production.
  8. Perform basic maintenance and repairs to AM equipment.
  9. Understand role of AM technician.
