BIOL 2220 - Recombinant DNA and Protein Production This course will introduce genetic engineering techniques used in the production of recombinant proteins and novel microbial traits. Students will learn techniques in genetic microbial transformation, DNA manipulation, recombinant protein production, and protein purification. Students will also be introduced to database systems used to organize, track, and share genomic and proteomic information. Issues of quality control, regulation, marketing, and ethical concerns will be explored.
Prerequisites: BIOL 1010 - General Biology I and BIOL 1101 - Standard Laboratory Operating Procedures in Biotechnology
Credits: 4
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3 lecture, 3 lab hrs/week
