Don’t be fooled into thinking that if you major in English there won’t be any jobs for you after you graduate. In fact, companies are always looking out for someone with good writing and speaking skills. English majors pursue a number of careers including stenography, communications, journalism, library science, teaching, and technical writing.

Like many of our programs, the English program at Sheridan College and Gillette College is designed to be a transfer program for those who are seeking a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in English.

Students study core areas of literature including contemporary literature and poetry. The program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the English language. Students learn various uses of the language, and some of the methods by which ideas are communicated.

The program provides an introduction to literary traditions, creative writing, and critical approaches to literature and prepares students to transfer to a university to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree.
