You might say that in many pharmaceutical dispensaries, pharmacy technicians are invaluable. Without their assistance, pharmacists would be inundated with prescriptions that could take a considerable amount of time to fill, which would cause lines to form and customers’ tempers to rise. Pharmacy Technicians must work under the supervision of a Licensed Pharmacist.
The primary duty of Pharmacy Technicians, whether they work in a hospital or retail pharmacy is to work directly with the patient or customer receiving written prescriptions, mixing and filling them according to the pharmacist’s direction. Pharm Techs, as they’re sometimes referred to, also order, package and store medications safely and securely after a prescription has been filled.
Sheridan College’s newly developed online Pharmacy Technology program is designed to provide student the knowledge and understanding of prescription medications and basic pharmacy protocol.
Students who choose to pursue an Associate of Science degree in Pharmacy Technology from Sheridan College will be exposed to a state-of-the-art simulation lab, knowledgeable and experienced faculty, and a number of employment/training opportunities in the community and nationwide.
