Dental Hygiene Program Outcomes
- Apply a professional code of ethics in all endeavors, assuming responsibility for professional actions.
- Promote positive values of overall health and wellness, in a culturally competent manner, to individuals, the public, and organizations within and outside the profession.
- Assess the oral health needs and services of community groups, determine action plans, and evaluate the outcomes of community-based programs.
- Provide individualized care utilizing the dental hygiene process of care model (assessment, dental hygiene diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation, documentation) that includes the educational, preventive, and therapeutic services necessary to achieve and maintain oral health.
- Accept responsibility for continuous professional growth through self-assessment, pursuit of life-long learning, and service activities.
Students completing prerequisite coursework at other colleges and universities should include course descriptions and syllabi with the submission of their transcript(s), or contact the SC Records Office to insure transferability. Completion of prerequisite courses does not guarantee automatic admission to the program.
Once a student has conditional acceptance into the program, the student must provide documentation of immunizations, CPR for Health Care Providers, and successful completion of a background check. Students are responsible for purchasing instruments and required uniforms and for other fees associated with the program.
Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take National, Regional, and State Board Exams for licensure.
