Rangeland Management AS

The Rangeland Management program prepares students to pursue careers or higher degrees in areas that involve management of our natural resources. This comprehensive program is hands-on and teaches students how to accomplish management goals such as: managing sustainable and productive livestock forage, ensuring clean and adequate water supplies, beautifying recreational scenery, and improving wildlife habitat. Students participating in this degree program will frequently pursue careers in rangeland ecology and management, ranch land stewardship, wildlife management, restoration ecology, and environmental consulting. 

Program Outcomes:
  1. Describe career paths within rangeland or natural resource management. 

  2. Differentiate rangeland ecosystems by their abiotic and biotic characteristics. 

  3. Identify common plant species found on rangelands and explain adaptations to their environment. 

  4. Evaluate management practices and how they impact plants, animals, soil and economics. 

  5. Select appropriate monitoring technique to assess land health or effectiveness of land management practices. 

  6. Interpret monitoring or experimental data to assess natural resource ecosystems and recommend future actions. 

  7. Gain hands-on experience with technical skills used in natural resource management careers. 

  8. Develop a land management plan. 

A “C” or better in all required program courses & the following general education courses – math, science, basic and advanced writing.

Summer Semester - 1 credits


Sophomore Year


Spring Semester - 13 credits


Total Credit Hours: 60
