Cyber Security AAS


The Cyber Security AAS Program prepares students for a career in computer network and Internet security. The program assists students to develop information security strategies, perform risk analysis, install security software, monitor network traffic and develop an emergency response plan. The program provides the foundational technology skills needed to support operating systems and computer technology and additionally teaches students to secure Microsoft Windows, Linux, Cisco infrastructure, servers, and clients, and the enterprise network. The courses maps to the following available technology and security certifications: Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Security Fundamentals, CompTIA A+, Linux +, Cloud +, Security+ and CySA+, EC – Council Ethical Hacker, Microsoft MCSA and Cisco CCNA Security. Additionally, students learn various scripting tools. Students also develop speaking and writing skills, allowing them to more effectively communicate with colleagues and employers.

Program Outcomes:
  1. Demonstrate set-up and basic maintenance of operating systems used by clients and servers such as Microsoft Windows and Linux distributions to include basic security risk remediation methods.

  2. Configure network infrastructure devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls to include security risk remediation configurations.

  3. Explain security risks and remediation solutions associated within cloud computing and virtualized technology.

  4. Apply computer forensic methods used in the event of a security breach.

  5. Describe required security program elements needed for an effective organizational security culture.

  6. Apply troubleshooting and ethical hacking methodology to identify and resolve technology problems and security vulnerabilities in hardware and software systems.

  7. Create scripting for use in an enterprise-networked environment.

Coursework must be completed with a C or better for all requirements.
