The Dental Hygiene program is ADA CODA accredited awarding an associate of applied science degree preceded by prerequisite coursework. The program has an agreement with the University of Wyoming for a Bachelor of Science degree in dental hygiene upon completion of upper division courses.
Program Outcomes:

Apply a professional code of ethics in all endeavors, assuming responsibility for professional actions.

Promote positive values of overall health and wellness, in a culturally competent manner, to individuals, the public, and organizations within and outside the profession.

Assess the oral health needs and services of community groups, determine action plans, and evaluate the outcomes of community-based programs.

Provide individualized care utilizing the dental hygiene process of care model (assessment, dental hygiene diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation, documentation) that includes the educational, preventive, and therapeutic services necessary to achieve and maintain oral health.

Accept responsibility for continuous professional growth through self-assessment, pursuit of life-long learning, and service activities.
Students completing prerequisite coursework at other colleges and universities should include course descriptions and syllabi with the submission of their transcript(s), or contact the SC Records Office to insure transferability. Completion of prerequisite courses does not guarantee automatic admission to the program.
Once a student has conditional acceptance into the program, the student must provide documentation of immunizations, CPR for Health Care Providers, and successful completion of a background check. Students are responsible for purchasing instruments and required uniforms and for other fees associated with the program.
Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take National, Regional, and State Board Exams for licensure.

Application/Admission
Requirements for Admission include:
- Submit application for general admission to NWCCD-Sheridan College. Apply to college.
- Complete pre-requisite courses. (may apply to the Dental Hygiene Program in the spring semester for fall entry and can have a maximum of two (2) prerequisites currently in progress).
- Complete 20 hours of observation in a dental office. (See packet for observation form and specifics.)
- Submit official transcripts from accredited colleges previously attended. A cumulative GPA of 2.75 or better on prerequisite courses required. NOTE: Students applying for the 2025-2026 academic catalog year will require a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better on prerequisite coursework.
- Submit application for admissions to the Sheridan College Dental Hygiene Program no later than February 15th. Apply to Dental Hygiene.

BS Degree through University of Wyoming
Students seeking a University of Wyoming bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene need to complete additional coursework and can earn a BS from UW in the same semester as earning an AAS from NWCCD. Work closely with your academic advisor in planning your courses to meet all requirements.

The last accreditation visit was in April 2017, and the program was granted Approval (without reporting requirements). The next accreditation site visit is scheduled for spring of 2025.
