The Criminal Justice Law Enforcement AAS program is designed to serve in-service peace officers and pre-service students wanting to become peace officers. The study of the activities of the agencies responsible for maintaining public order and enforcing the law, particularly the activities of prevention, detection, and investigation of crime and the apprehension of criminals. The role of a police officer as a crisis manager is explored as a critical piece of the criminal justice system. 

Program Outcomes:

1. Examine the components of the criminal justice system (CRMJ 1001 (formerly 2120) Intro to Criminal Justice).

2. Critique the application of rights to criminal defendants as defined by the US Constitution (CRMJ 2200) Constitutional Law.

3. Examine the basic elements of criminal culpability including actus reus, mens rea, causation and concurrence (CRMJ 2210 Criminal Law).

4. Investigate the various functions that law enforcement agencies perform (CRMJ 2045 (formerly 1520) Law Enforcement Operations).

5. Analyze the major theories of crime causation to include biological, sociological, psychological, and life course perspectives of criminality (CRMJ 2400 Criminology).

6. Analyze sentencing philosophy within the United States (CRMJ 2350 Intro to Corrections).
