Machine Tool Technology AAS

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Programs of Study (Degree Requirements)

The Machine Tool AAS program gives the students an opportunity to gain a broader knowledge and to achieve a higher skill level in machining than is offered in the one-year certificate program. Students are required to develop advanced skills in planning, designing, producing CAD prints, and setting up and operating machine tools to produce precision parts to specifications. The students receive training in programming, setting-up and operating CNC turning and machining centers. There is also a general education component integrated into the program to satisfy demands for appropriate workforce skills. Upon completing the AAS degree program, students have the necessary skills to become employed as an entry-level machinist or a CNC technician.

Program Outcomes:

  1. Perform safety skills in an industrial setting.

  2. Interpret information from a blueprint.

  3. Produce parts from a blueprint on a manual machine.

  4. Perform programming and setup procedures on a computer numerical controlled machine.

  5. Design and manufacturing parts using CAD/CAM (computer-aided drafting/computer-aided machining software.

Students must receive a C or higher in all required program courses to earn the AAS degree (MCHT prefix).

*Students interested in the Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Management and Leadership should be advised to take MATH 1000 or higher, advanced writing (AW), or ECON/AGEC1010 or ECON/AGEC1020 as general education options. (If a student is considering transfer to university or college for advanced studies, MATH 1500 is a career technical course, and is not transferrable).
