The Criminal Justice AA program is designed to serve in-service criminal justice practitioners, pre-service students who desire immediate employment after graduation, students who wish to transfer to a four-year institution to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, and those interested in criminal justice related topics. It is designed primarily for transfer to a four-year institution.
Program Outcomes:
PO#1 Examine the components of the criminal justice system
PO#2 Assess how the United States Constitution and procedural case law influence the field of criminal justice.
PO#3: Examine the basic elements of criminal culpability including actus reus, mens rea, causation and concurrence
PO#4: Analyze the major theories of crime causation to include individual level theories as well as societal level theories.
PO#5: Analyze sentencing philosophy within the United States
PO#6: Evaluate the sociological underpinnings of police legitimacy with a focus on how individual discretionary decisions impact the overall public perception of police.
PO#7: Examine the principles of conflict resolution, to include conflict dynamics, understanding sources of conflict, active listening, behavior and scenario assessment, and creative problem solving.
