Criminal Justice: Law Enforcement AAS

The Criminal Justice Law Enforcement AAS program is designed to serve individuals interested in working within the criminal justice field immediately upon graduation. Study will focus on the activities of the agencies responsible for maintaining public order and enforcing the law, particularly the activities of prevention, detection, and investigation of crime and the apprehension of criminals. The role of a police officer as a crisis manager is explored as a critical piece of the criminal justice system, with a focus on the mental health and addiction issues commonly found in criminal defendants.The criminal justice AAS degree program concludes with a capstone course involving experiential learning working alongside officials currently serving within the criminal justice system. 

Program Outcomes:

1) Explain the role of local and federal government agencies in protecting society from harm.

2) Evaluate how the United States Constitution guides the field of Criminal Justice.

3) Differentiate the basic elements of law and criminal culpability.

4) Assess the major theories of crime causation.

5) Analyze sentencing philosophy within the United States.

6) Describe the sociological underpinnings of police legitimacy.

7) Articulate the principles of conflict resolution and common sources of conflict within the criminal justice system.
