The Surveying Technology AAS is a collaborative program with the University of Wyoming. The curriculum emphasizes drafting, field computations, survey law and legal applications, as well as provides a general education towards the completion of an associate’s degree. Upper-level surveying courses are offered through the UW’s Outreach program as part of UW’s Certificate in Cadastral Surveying. UW’s courses articulate with the Sheridan College Surveying Technology AAS degree program to meet degree requirements.

The Sheridan College AAS degree and the University of Wyoming Certificate programs are designed for working professionals. They are 100% on-line to serve those individuals seeking or exploring licensure. Professional licensure is three pronged: education, experience, and examination. UW and SC cannot guarantee licensure or certification in any state as each jurisdiction has its own laws and regulations regarding employment. To pursue licensure, students completing these programs would need to apply via the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) to take the competency examinations. These include the Fundamentals of Surveying exam and the Principals and Practice of Surveying exam and pay the associated examination fees. The NCEES Organization does not grant licenses but reports the results to the state or jurisdiction in which you apply to practice. Students that qualify for a Surveying Internship (SI), also known as Surveyor-in-Training certificate and pass the respective NCEES exam(s) shall also meet the jurisdiction’s experience requirements prior to applying for a license from the individual state boards to work as a professional surveyor. Currently, many jurisdictions have an additional state specific exam to address the specific complexities of concentration for surveying within their borders.

Program Outcomes:

1. Implement procedures for the use and care of field equipment.

2. Apply math, science, and technology in surveying activities.

3. Identify the surveyor’s role in a land information system.

4. Effectively communicate information in these formats: written, oral, mathematical, and graphical.

5.  Apply real property law as it relates to land surveying.
