The creation of buildings, airplanes, industrial machines and even furniture all begins in the capable hands of a drafter. Drafters create intricate, detailed technical drawings using information given to them by engineers, scientists or land surveyors to show the dimensions of an object, the materials it will be built with and how it will be built. Once each series of drawings is complete, they are used by production and construction workers to bring the drawing to life.
At Sheridan College students work on the latest computer drafting programs and with our very experienced instructors to hone their drafting skills and prepare themselves for a position in today’s drafting market.
At Sheridan College students can earn an AAS degree in drafting. The program is designed to give students an introductory background in drafting and improve their writing, science, and analytic skills. The course of study will prepare students for entry into a position as draftsman at firms using CAD or related technology. Emphasis is placed on drafting conforming to standards relevant to the industry for which drawings are made. In addition, the degree provides students with greater opportunity for advancement and sets the foundation for a more advanced degree.
