Under the title “biologists” are a number of specialized career areas that all relate to the study of life. Biologists spend their lives dedicated to learning more about how life and living things function and interact. Biologists conduct scientific tests on everything from microscopic organisms living 20 miles below the surface of the ocean, to entire eco-systems, to the complex functions of the human body.

The Biology program at Sheridan College and Gillette College is designed to give students a broad background in the sciences with an emphasis in the biological or life sciences. The goal of the program is to provide students with knowledge in the biological sciences, chemistry, mathematics and general education electives to prepare them to transfer as juniors to a university in the specialty they choose. Sheridan College and Gillette College students have the opportunity to do biomedical research on campus, and to take field trips to the nearby Bighorn Mountains and Yellowstone National Park to conduct hands-on research on living organisms in their actual environment.

Possible programs of study at Sheridan College and Gillette College under biology include genetics, zoology, pre-fish & wildlife management, natural resources management. Programs under biotechnology include microbiology, pre-forestry, wildlife biology, environmental biology.

Students interested in pursuing a career in a specific area such as Biotechnology, Fisheries Management, Forestry, Science Teaching, or Wildlife Management should follow the study plan required by the university to which they plan to transfer.
