MINE 1500 - Introduction to Mining This course is an introduction to the fundamental concepts of surface mining. Students are exposed to terminology, methods, practices, and case studies in surface mining. This course examines the life-cycle of a surface mine, including prospecting, exploration, development, extraction, and reclamation. Methods for calculating extractions, identifying mining data, identifying geological factors, and assessing the environmental impact of surface mining are discussed. Students examine new trends in surface mining.
