Criminal Justice: Correctional Services AAS

The Correctional Services AAS program is designed to serve in-service correctional and detention officers or pre-service students who wish to become employed in the field of corrections.

Criminal Justice Program Outcomes:

  1. Identify the major goals of the Criminal Justice System and its components.
  2. Critique the application of rights to criminal defendants and criminal procedure as defined by the US Constitution.
  3. Identify the basic elements of criminal culpability such as actus reus and mens rea and causation and concurrence.
  4. Survey the various functions that law enforcement agencies perform.
  5. Analyze the major theories of crime causation to include biological, sociological and psychological perspectives.
  6. Describe sentencing philosophy and identify the central purpose of criminal punishment within the US.
