The music program of study at NWCCD is designed to provide basic core courses that will prepare students for upper-level study in applied music, music theory, music history, music education, music composition, or music production.

Students electing to major in music are expected to become proficient in written and aural theory, acquire an historical perspective of music, and develop instrumental and/or vocal performance skills in solo and ensemble settings. Music majors must participate in at least one ensemble during each semester, subject to audition when required.

Upon completion of the program, students may choose to transfer to a four-year institution, or to pursue a career in music.

Program Outcomes:
  1. Perform varied repertoire associated with the student’s primary instrument.

  2. Summarize musical styles, genres, and major composers from different cultures and historical periods.

  3. Analyze notated and aural music examples.

  4. Use basic music technology tools.

  5. Demonstrate competency in basic piano keyboard skills.
