Addictions Practitioner Certificate

Completion of this certificate at NWCCD fulfills the educational requirements of the Wyoming Mental Health Licensing Board for a Certified Addictions Practitioner. The practice of a Certified Additions Practitioner consists of addictions treatment, prevention, intervention, diagnosis, referral, and follow-up under the supervision of a designated qualified clinical supervisor licensed in the state of Wyoming. The certificate program at NWCCD is designed to update the skill and knowledge of individuals currently working addictionology or those with previous degrees preparing to become certified addiction practitioners or licensed addiction therapists. It also trains students preparing to work in counseling, psychiatry, psychology, nursing, social work, rehabilitation, criminal justice, community service, or related human service fields. Courses are also available for current addiction practitioners who meet course requirements.

Program Outcomes:

1. Access addictive behaviors in humans across diverse situations.

2. Analyze counseling theories, skills, and ethics.

3. Design interventions for substance abuse.

Freshman Year


Spring Semester - 17 credits


Total Program Credits: 34


Note:


Work experience is a requirement for obtaining the CAPA or CAP certificate.  It is recommended that the practicum option be selected if you DO NOT have work experience in the field and are intending to apply for a Wyoming Mental Health Professional License.
