Dental Hygiene AAS

The Dental Hygiene program is two years in length after required pre-requisite coursework, and is accredited by the American Dental Association, Commission on Dental Accreditation. Class size is limited to 24 students, and courses must be taken in sequence beginning in the fall semester of each year. The program has a cooperative agreement with the University of Wyoming, whereby students are concurrently enrolled at both Sheridan College and UW during their second year of the program, earning upper division credit towards a Bachelor of Science degree. Students graduate from Sheridan College with an Associate of Applied Science degree and may simultaneously graduate from UW with a BS degree. Students may also choose to complete the BS degree at a later time. Graduates of Sheridan College are eligible to take licensure exams in any state.
Dental Hygiene Program Outcomes
- Apply a professional code of ethics in all endeavors, assuming responsibility for professional actions.
- Promote positive values of overall health and wellness, in a culturally competent manner, to individuals, the public and organizations within and outside the profession.
- Assess the oral health needs and services of community groups, determine action plans, and evaluate the outcomes of community-based programs.
- Provide individualized care utilizing the dental hygiene process of care model (assessment, dental hygiene diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation, documentation) that includes the educational, preventive and therapeutic services necessary to achieve and maintain oral health.
- Accept responsibility for continuous professional growth through self-assessment, pursuit of life-long learning and service activities.

Prerequisite Course of Study
Students completing prerequisite coursework at other colleges and universities should include course descriptions and syllabi with the submission of their transcript(s), or contact the SC Records and Registration Office to insure transferability. Completion of prerequisite courses does not guarantee automatic admission to the program.
Once a student has conditional acceptance into the program, the student must provide documentation of immunizations, CPR for Health Care Providers, and successful completion of a background check. Students are responsible for purchasing instruments and required uniforms and for other fees associated with the program.
Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take National, Regional, and State Board Exams for licensure. Fall Semester - Total Credit Hours: 15

BS Degree through University of Wyoming
Students seeking a University of Wyoming bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene will need to complete additional coursework. Work closely with your academic advisor in planning your courses to meet requirements.
