The Elementary Education AS Program is designed to provide the initial foundation for preparing qualified teachers and related personnel for elementary schools. The program enables students to assess interest, aptitude and capabilities for a career in education. The program prepares students to transfer to a Baccalaureate program.
Programs of study should be planned with regard to specific requirements of the institution to which the students plan to transfer.
Elementary/Secondary Education Program Outcomes
- Demonstrate an understanding of the historical and sociological foundations of education in the United States.
- Construct learning experiences based on current best practices, developmental theories, and state and national standards.
- Use effective, appropriate, and varied instructional methods to communicate with diverse audiences.
- Evaluate instructional methods that connect learning with the students’ diverse experiences and needs.
- Implement self-reflection strategies to enhance professional and personal growth.

Total Degree Credit Hours: 65
Science Seminar: A choice of two listed science seminars must be taken concurrently with the lab science. A third Lab Science and Seminar is highly recommended.
